Probe into blazes in Preston

Police are probing a suspected arson attack on a car which spread to nearby garages.

Firefighters were called to Hawkhurst Road, Preston, at around 5 am today.

A car had been set alight and a Preston fire crew worked to extinguish the blaze and stop it from badly damaging two nearby garages.

At around the same time, there were fires outside a shop in nearby Castleton Road and in bins in Falcon Street. One theory is that they may be connected.

Police are investigating.

Motorcyclist death after crash near Whittingham

A major rural road on the outskirts of Preston has been shut due to a fatal crash.

Cumeragh Lane is closed at its junction with Whittingham Lane and Barbiner Lane, Back Lane and Camforth Hall Lane.

A motorbike and car have collided. The road is closed in both directions.

An air ambulance is understood to have been called.

A police spokesman said: “We were called around 3.25pm today by the Ambulance Service following reports of a collision in Whittingham.

“A car and motorbike had collided at the junction of Back Lane and Cumeragh Lane.

“Emergency services attended and the motorcyclist, a man, was later pronounced dead at the scene.

“The road is currently closed and motorists are advised to avoid the area.”

Cumeragh Lane is where United Utilities are working to repair a major burst pipe which is causing water supply problems to the PR2 and PR3 postcode areas.

Two taken to hospital after car skids into a wall in Morecambe

Two people were taken to the hospital and a major road in Morecambe has been closed after a car skidded into a wall.

The Renault Megane was travelling along Lancaster Road at around 1.30am this morning when the accident happened, say police.

The occupants of the car were taken to Royal Lancaster Infirmary.
The road was closed between Burlington Avenue and South Grove from 1.30-7am.

Spokesman for Lancashire Police Steve Bradshaw said: “We were called to an incident in the early hours of this morning on Lancaster Road. A Renault Megane skidded and hit a wall and two people were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Recovery are currently at the scene and we hope that the road will be open by 7 am if not before.”

Diversions were in place around the site of the accident.

Audi driver crashes into barrier in Fulwood

A crash barrier near a primary school and leisure centre in Fulwood has been destroyed.

An Audi driver has seen significant damage to the front of their car during the incident in Black Bull Lane.

Preston Police are in attendance near Queen’s Drive Primary School where the silver car has been stopped

It is not thought anyone was hurt in the crash.

The crash happened around 3.50pm on Saturday (4 March) and caused minor delays.

Police said they hoped to have the road clear of wreckage by 5pm.

Car overturned in Blackpool Road crash

A section of a busy road in Preston has been closed during Tuesday evening.

Blackpool Road in Lea was shut heading out of the city after a car collided with a parked car.

Lancashire Road Police described the scene as a ‘mess’.

Police also seized a people carrier being driven by an unaccompanied provisional licence holder.

Traffic is running fine in the opposite direction in Blackpool Road.

The incident happened around 7pm on Tuesday (14 February).
