Woman cut free from wreckage after crash near Preston

A main road between Preston and Southport was blocked after a car crash.

Fire crews from Tarleton and Southport attended the crash at the junction of Southport New Road and Blackgate Lane on the A556 heading towards Preston.

The driver, a female, was cut from the car and treated by paramedics at the scene.

The road was closed for two hours while crews worked to clear the wreckage.

The incident took place just after 5.30am on Sunday (29 January).

Lancashire Police have been warning drivers to take care on the roads as they become icy due to the low temperatures

Driver rescued in dramatic Walton-le-Dale crash

A motorist has been rescued from a ditch after crashing in Walton-le-Dale.

Cuerdale Lane was closed while emergency services came to the drivers aid during Sunday afternoon.

Shortly after 2pm a silver car left the road and ended up on its side. Only one car was involved.

Shaun Walton of Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said crews from Fulwood and Bamber Bridge responded.

He said: “There’s been a lot of crashes in the last couple of days. Please drive safe and to the conditions, roads are slippy and also we’re seeing patches of fog. Stay slow and use your lights.”

The driver, who was the only person involved, was taken to hospital but is not thought to have serious injuries.

BREAKING NEWS: Teenager killed in Chorley road crash

An 18-year-old has been killed in a collision in Chorley.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the incident in the early hours of Sunday.

Officers were called around 12.05am following reports of an accident close to the junction of Shepherds Way and Clifford Street.

 A Vauxhall Corsa had been travelling north on Shepherds Way towards Chorley town
centre when it was involved in a collision with a Toyota Yaris travelling eastbound on Clifford Street.

The Corsa overturned at the roundabout and the driver of the vehicle, an 18-year-old man from Chorley, suffered serious head injuries.

He was taken to Royal Preston Hospital for treatment but later died.

Both passengers in the Corsa were also injured. An 18-year-old male suffered a head and shoulder injury while a 17-year-old boy suffered fractured hands.

The driver of the Yaris, a 52-year-old man, was uninjured and later arrested by police in connection with the incident.

The road was closed for six hours while accident investigators attended the scene.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the collision.

Sgt Finn Quainton, of Lancashire Police, said: “This is a tragic incident and my thoughts are with the man’s family at this time.

“While we have arrested one man in connection with the collision, we are keen to establish the exact circumstances of what happened.

Driver in hospital after car crashes off the M6

A driver is in hospital after a crash on the M6 near Preston.

The car left the motorway on the southbound side near Junction 32 and went down an embankment and into a field.

The crash trapped the driver, four fire crews from Lancashire Fire and Rescue went to cut the driver free.

The incident happened at 2.56pm on Saturday (14 January), Fire and Rescue crews from Fulwood, Lancaster and Garstang responded.

One lane was closed on the motorway while they worked to free the driver.

The casualty was taken to Royal Preston Hospital by air ambulance.
